We look forward to welcoming you to the Philip Johnson Glass House located in New Canaan, Connecticut. The 47-acre site contains 14 structures including the architect’s personal residence – the Glass House.
Tours of the Glass House and its 47-acre site run annually from May 1 to November 30. Tickets are required for tour admission and advance reservations are highly recommended. Visitors may choose from six levels of site experience. Standard and Extended Tours provide access to the Glass House, Painting Gallery, Sculpture Gallery and Da Monsta. Modern Friends and Twilight tours feature those buildings above in addition to Philip Johnson’s Study/Library. Visitors may also book private tours.
Tours begin at the Visitor Center located at 199 Elm Street in downtown New Canaan, CT. The center is conveniently located across from the New Canaan train station. Visitors are transported from the Visitor Center to the Glass House site in a shuttle van – approximately a 10-minute drive.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early for their tour allowing ample time to browse the products in the museum store and to view the video exhibition and Oral History Project Films, which are currently on display.
Features
- All visitors are encouraged to check-in at the Visitor Center 20 minutes prior to tour departure.
- Tours include a ¾-mile outdoor walk across some uneven terrain. Visitors are advised to wear comfortable shoes and attire as all tours will take place rain or shine.
- Tours are recommended for children ages 10 and above. All children, regardless of age, must have a tour ticket. If necessary, a car seat should be provided by the parent or guardian for installation in the Glass House shuttle van ensuring safe transport as required by Connecticut law.
- Visitors with ADA or accessibility needs or concerns are encouraged to contact Visitor Center staff prior to their tour for parking and site arrangements.
- Visitors are kindly asked to respect the museum setting while on their tour. Please refrain from bringing food and beverages (water permitted) as well as pets to the site.
- All tours begin at the Glass House Visitor Center located at 199 Elm Street in downtown New Canaan, CT.
Transportation
The Visitor Center is located directly across the street from the New Canaan Metro North train station and is easily reached by trains servicing stops between New York City and New Haven, CT.Nearby Points of Interest
