The Danbury Fairgrounds started in 1821 as a small agricultural fair. It was a place to show off your crops, cooking, and farm animals. Starting in 1932, there was a car race track on the fairgrounds. Every Saturday night in the summer and early fall, you could go and see the stock car races. The Danbury Fair Mall opened in the year of 1986. In 2005, the Wilmorite Corporation sold the mall to The Macerich Company.

Danbury Fair is one of the largest shopping malls in the state of Connecticut and is the fifth largest in New England. This amazing shopping experience is effortlessly accessible. It is located off Interstate 84 and Route 7. There are approximately 200 retailers and eateries. Danbury Fair is home to retail favorites like Apple, Abercrombie & Ftich, Coach, Michael Kors, J. The mall is especially popular with kids, partly due to the double decker Carousel, play area in the food court, kiddie rides for the children and even a bungee jumping experience for the brave ones! The mall also sponsors many family-oriented events and activities on a regular basis. Many of these events take place in the mall's center court on the lower level. For special events such as song and dance performances, the central area can be converted into a stage area. The center court includes a Starbucks coffee bar, soft seating with tables, and a lovely water globe center piece which also serves as a wishing well.
